Arizona State Offices

This year Arizona elects a new legislature; we have a chance to take Democratic control of the Arizona House. We only need four more seats in the House where there are a large number of vulnerable seats. In the state Senate we need six more seats and hope for gains there.

Four state-wide seats on the Arizona Corporation commission will also be elected.

Here in SaddleBrooke, our key focus will be on Legislative District #26 where we have three candidates, one for Senate and two for House Seats in the Arizona legislature. In the photo above, it’s left to right, Nancy Wright, Don Jorgensen and Cheryl Cage.

Arizona Senate candidate Cheryl Cage founded Cage Consulting, Inc. in 1988. Over 90,000 pilots have used her books and consulting services in connection with job placements in the airline industry. In addition to her ‘day job’ Cheryl has been active for many years in Tucson politics. Initially Cheryl was tapped to be Don Jorgensen’s campaign manager; but she switched from staffer to candidate when the need arose. She is now competing for the Arizona Senate seat in LD #26.

Growing up in a military family, Cheryl was moved from school to school, including three high schools in four years. She notes: “I loved every minute of it.” After earning a B.A. in psychology, she was a flight attendant for Braniff, and later started her aviation and business career consulting business.

Cheryl has been married for 27 years to Young Cage, a retired United Airlines pilot, and they have two stepchildren and six grandchildren. She has a B.A. in Psychology and is the author of a number of books related to her consulting services.

Arizona House candidate Don Jorgensen says he is compelled to run because it is time to bring real change to Arizona. It’s time for experienced, practical and positive leaders in the AZ House of Representatives.“THE STEPS WE TAKE NOW will affect Arizona’s Quality of Life for the next decade. The steps we take now will determine whether our kids will have the same rights, the same opportunities, and the same shot at the American dream that we have today.”Don is a successful small business entrepreneur having moved to Tucson in 1978 to attend the University of Arizona where he earned a graduate degree. He married his wife Kathy and they raised two children here.Don founded the Jorgensen/Brooks Group, a national recognized consulting firm specializing in workplace conflict management and employee counseling. He has authored a number of books and is an internationally recognized expert in Employee Assistance Programs.

He is the past president of Greater Tucson Leadership, and a board member of the YMCA and Compass Healthcare Foundation. He has been instrumental in legislation here in Arizona to address problems of women’s health and fetal alcohol syndrome.

Nancy Young Wright has served in the House of Representatives since January, 2008. She was appointed to replace Lena Saradnik, who is recovering from an illness. During this session, she has worked to protect public education, the environment, and services for children, seniors, and the disabled.

Nancy served on the Amphitheater Unified School District Board from 1997-2007, and was the Board’s president from 2002-2004. While at Amphitheater, she led efforts to return First Amendment rights to the district via an open “Call to the Audience”, and she worked to institute a voluntary roof top fee for developer donations for school construction needs.

She has been active in politics for most of her adult life, working on the local and national campaigns of several candidates.

A native of New Mexico, Ms. Young Wright has been a Tucson resident for 27 years. Her MFA is from the University of Arizona; her BA in Journalism is from New Mexico State University. She is married to Allen Wright, and they have two college-aged daughters, Erin and Kelsey. They share their Oro Valley home with three cats, two dogs, and their 28 year-old horse. Nancy is a strong advocate for education, the environment, the arts, and the humane treatment of animals.
