Campaign 2008

In 2008 we will hold national elections for the Presidency and Congress. Here in Arizona we have opportunities to add Democrats to the state legislature. Only four more seats and we control the Arizona House of Representatives. Moreover, we will be holding important elections here in Pinal County. All of our county-wide offices will be up for re-election.

For now, this page will include information on the national races. The links given below link to state-wide races, Pinal County Politics and Initatives and Propositions.

Presidential Politics

We Democrats were not shy about announcing that we are running for President. In fact over a dozen Democrats have stood up and said that they would be willing to become President and clean up the mess that W (worst ever) has made of our democracy. Now only two candidates are left fighting for what has been the closest nomination campaign in more thatn two decades. Senator Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton will probably decide the matter on March 4th as the primary season begins to wind down.

The latest national polls show Clinton 42%, Obama 54%.

Top Tier Candidates

Hillary Clinton STATUS ANNOUNCED CANDIDATE: Senator Hillary Clinton announced in January 2007 that she would run to be President of the United States in 2008. Most pundits view her as the front runner now. She has been strong in early polls and is an incredible fund raiser. Obama and Edwards are the only apparent rivals. www.HillaryClinton.com She now trails Barack Obama by nearly 100 convention delegates and exhorts voters to remember her experience as a factor in making her uniquely ready to be the next President.
Barack Obama STATUS MOST LIKELY NOMINEE: In February 2007, Senator Barack Obama announced his full-fledged entry into the race. Although he was only elected to the United States Senate in 2004, his charisma, message, intelligence and eloquence have vaulted him into the first tier of candidates. www.BarackObama.com The Senator’s eloquence and call for Change We Can All Believe In has the Democratic Party all fired up and ready to go!

Former Democratic Hopefuls

FORMER CANDIDATE: Former Senator John Edwards announced his candidacy in December 2006, and got off to a fast start. Early polls immediately placed Edwards into the first tier of front runners (along with Senators Clinton and Obama). Edwards focuses his message on the need to eliminate poverty in America and quickly ending the Iraq War. He has received major support from unions. www.JohnEdwards.com His campaign ended in February 2008.

AL Gore the former Vice President and 2000 Democratic nominee for President who won more total popular votes than the ultimate “winner” of the race was touted as a draft candidate. Despite widespread speculation, Gore has made it clear that he will not be a candidate for President in 2008. Even as an unannounced candidate, national polls indicate that 14% of Democrats prefer him over the announced candidates. He recently won an Oscar for his award winning documentary in Global Climate Change and of course, the Nobel Peace Prize. www.AlGore.org

Senator Joe Biden FORMER CANDIDATE. Senator Joe Biden, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is an ardent foe of the Neo-Cons. www.JoeBiden.com

Governor Bill Richardson FORMER CANDIDATE. Governor Richardson announced his Presidential candidacy in January. Although he is now a state executive, he clearly misses his days of dealing with foreign policy issues as a US Congressman and Ambassador to the United Nations. He has been nominated four times for the Nobel Peace Prize. www.RichardsonForPresident.com

Senator Chris Dodd FORMER CANDIDATE. Senator Chris Dodd announced his candidacy in January 2007 and he remains well back in the second tier of hopefuls. Dodd believes he has ideas to offer, based on his decades of experience on Capital Hill. www.ChrisDodd.com Senator Dodd recently endorsed Barack Obama for President of the United States.

Other Candidates Well Down the Numbers Lists
