Preamble to DNC Platform of Inclusion & Support for Workers
Tax Scam and Net Neutrality

Feel free to copy and paste the below letters to our Congressional representation and the FCC Commissioners.  There’s nothing magical here, so edit to your own desires.

Tax Scam:

To Senators Flake and McCain, Cc to Congressman O’Halleran

I implore you to vote Nay on the current tax bill.  It would bloat the deficit and pass the bill to middle class Americans who can’t afford any more tax increases.  As states move to cope with the reduction in services and the safety net for disadvantaged and elders pushed down to them, Americans would be further segregated into earnings enclaves.  That’s not what this country is about!

“This is a tax bill befitting a post-truth era. Are you counting on fatigue of outrage? Many political analysts think it could be a disaster for Republican electoral changes in 2018?”  The GOP would deserve it!

The pain and suffering this will deal to those Americans hanging on by a thread for an opportunity, is cruel and inhuman.

This bill will create a new lower class—the current middle class—and elevate the .1% into the stratosphere of earnings.  There won’t be enough taxable earnings to generate economic growth, and our country will be economically damaged for decades, even if the law can be reversed in 2019.

Net Neutrality:

Subject: Save Net Neutrality

Dear Commissioners,

You probably don’t realize how many Americans are aware and concerned with your consideration to trash net neutrality, but even in Arizona, and especially in rural America, we recognize how vital a neutral internet is to opening opportunities for the remote, disadvantaged, and creative entrepreneurs.

Keep Net Neutrality!!

An FCC plan to sell-off internet neutrality trades long term investment for short term cash, and higher salaries for ISP Executives.

It’s a stab in the heart of the American spirit of liberty and invention.

It will only benefit broadband providers and cost consumers more to access certain things from the internet, or make it virtually impossible for consumers to view certain items if their broadband provider doesn’t want them to see it.

It is censorship for profit, but censorship nonetheless.

There is something not right about a few unelected FCC officials making such vast determinations about the future of the internet.  Leave it alone!

With Earnest,

Updates from INDIVISIBLE  Dec 11, 2017
Dear Arizona Indivisibles,

We’re in the final stretch of 2017 and Congress has a lot of work to do (that means we do too!).Though they have just two main items — getting the tax scam to Trump’s desk and passing a funding bill to keep the government open — on their to-do list, their entire caucus isn’t on board for either of these items.

Fighting the GOP’s tax scam

This week, the conference committees (read our conference 101 explainer) will meet and begin to resolve the differences between the House and Senate tax bills. There are enough differences between the two bills that they face real challenges in reaching a compromise that works for enough of their members in both houses.

This fight could be won with additional pressure on Senator Flake.   Arizona Indivisibles are already doing amazing things to defeat the Trump Tax Scam. In Phoenix, Indivisible groups held a day-long sit-in at BOTH Senator Flake and Senator McCain’s offices. Senator Flake justified his vote on the Senate bill because he got reassurances from GOP leadership that there would be a fix for DACA recipients. But McConnell and Ryan continue to refuse to address the issue. That means there is no reason for Senator Flake to vote for this bill again. Keep the pressure on Flake and give him something to think twice about before he tries to betray us with the final vote on this scam.

  1. Schedule a visit to Senator Flake’s office. Check our map to see if there’s already an event in your area, or check out our event organizing guide to host one yourself!
  2. Call Senator Flake now at 1-855-980-2350. Read our call scripts here to inform your conversation.

Demand deportation relief for Dreamers

Last week, both the House and Senate passed a “continuing resolution” (CR) to keep the government open for another two weeks — without including a clean DREAM Act.Let us be clear: a vote for the CR was a vote to deport Dreamers. And plenty of Democrats in both the House and Senate failed Dreamers.   Senate Democrats had real leverage in this fight, but just eight in the Democratic caucus kept their promises to DREAMers, held their ground, and voted no: Kamala Harris (CA), Mazie Hirono (HI), Ed Markey (MA), Elizabeth Warren (MA), Cory Booker (NJ), Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Jeff Merkley (OR), and Bernie Sanders (I-VT).  As a result, in the next two weeks, 1,708 Dreamers will lose their protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, an Obama-era executive action that allowed them to apply for work permits and live without fear of deportation. Senator Flake needs to hear from you that you’re watching and demand protection from deportation for Dreamers.

Here’s how to take action to demand:

This week’s #TrumpThreatLevel

Trump announced that the US would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The Pentagon changed its policy and now embraces cluster munitions, a weapons system that has been banned by the global community. The administration also pulled out of a United Nations project to create more humane conditions for immigrants and refugees. Trump continues to isolate us from our allies making us less safe week after week. Read the IndivisiBlog for our running list of all the ways Trump is putting us at risk.

Indivisible435: Voting rights and voter suppression

Though a lot of attention is paid to national elections, voter suppression laws are typically passed by state legislatures and state. And state and local election officials administer the elections in your community. The decisions these officials make have real consequences: a Virginia House of Delegates seat is still under contention a month after election day after the Republican won by 82 votes in a district where 147 voters were assigned to the wrong district. We’ve partnered with Access Democracy to create a new guide on voting rights and voter suppression. The guide covers four simple steps you can take to change how elections are run in your community and protect the right to vote for every eligible voter. Your election officials need to know that we demand fair, equal, and easy access to the ballot.

Check out the guide on Indivisible435.org, and get started today.
