The office of Precinct Committee person is an elected public office in every state of the union. People who are elected or appointed to be Democratic Precinct Committee persons are official members of their political party and, if elected, are eligible to vote in Democratic party meetings held at the county level. Democratic Precinct Committee persons are responsible for conducting campaigns and mobilizing Democratic and progressive-minded voters in their precincts. Democratic Precinct Committee persons and Precinct Workers are synonymous.

A precinct is the smallest geographical area in which voters reside, and it may not be sub-divided. All political boundaries (state, congressional, county, even school districts) are drawn to incorporate one or more precincts. A precinct is where elections are won or lost. Precinct Workers know the people, the schools, and the community centers. A good precinct worker has a good grasp of the pulse of the community with all its problems and potentials.

The SaddleBrooke area includes two precincts (8 and 15), which taken together include all of SaddleBrooke as well as other areas including Eagle Crest and the Biosphere. All together there are about 6,000 registered voters in the two precincts. We have a single Democratic Precinct Committee working together to cover both precincts. We are currently authorized a total of 11 slots, and we have two vacancies in Precinct 8.

Theoretically, the Precinct Committee is separate from the SaddleBrooke Democratic Club because clubs are not part of the official Democratic party hierarchy. But from a practical point, we is them and them is us. All the current members of the Precinct Commttee are also members of the SaddleBrooke Democratic Club. Viewed the other way, a majority of the officers of the club are also elected or appointed Precinct Committee persons.
