The Arizona Republican Party is at it again! [1/28/2011]

The Democratic Party is the mainstream party, the party that represents Arizona’s values. And Russell Pearce and his far-right Republican friends in the Legislature are already making this case for us:

  • Last week, ultra-conservatives in the Legislature introduced the so-called  “birther bill” in an attempt to keep President Obama off the Arizona ballot in 2012;
  • This past weekend, Sen. Linda Gray actually  cited Roe v. Wade and the acceptance of reproductive rights for women as a cause in the Tucson shootings;
  • Today Rep. John Kavanagh and Sen. Ron Gould introduced bills aimed at fundamentally altering the U.S. Constitution and the very definition of United States citizenship so that those born in this country do not have the right to automatically become citizens of this country.

In this time of crisis, Arizona’s leaders ought to be focused on creating jobs, getting our economy back on track and fixing our state’s broken budget. This showboating by Republican legislators shows just how misplaced their priorities really are.

We need your help to reach out to moderates in Arizona who are fed up with the Russell Pearce regime.

Arizona Democrats are continuing to fight for what really matters to Arizonans— a stronger economy, safer streets, and better schools.

About 50 Democrats and Independents met only a few hours after the tragic events in the parking lot at Ina and Oracle, on January 8th.  It was a regularly scheduled meeting, and many welcomed the company of those who were grieving for Congresswoman Giffords, and for the families of those who were killed and injured in the shooting that has now gripped the Nation.

A moment of silence was held.

We had a group discussion and then broke into small groups and recorded ideas for future meetings and events.
