Thousands Set To Protest Next Monday in Tucson and Phoenix
Several organizations are planning marches and massive demonstrations in Phoenix and Tucson to protest anti-immigrant laws being crafted by the Republicans. In Phoenix, it is expected that tens of thousands will rally on Monday, April 10th at the capitol to march, hear speakers and demonstrate unity. Similar actions are scheduled in Tucson.
We urge Democrats to turn out and march with the demonstrators. The Republicans in congress are trying to pass a law that would make it a felony for an undocumented person to be in the United States. Presumably they think we should arrest and imprison the estimated eleven million people who are living, working and paying taxes here in the United States. We Democrats think this amounts to racisim and xenophobia in addition to being just plain stupid. Jon Kyl is leading this insanity. Go to a rally on Monday and give him and the Republicans a message.
We will post rally information here as it becomes available. Click here to read a story about the upcomming Phoenix protest which appeared in the Tri Valley Central.
This information is from the Pima County Democrats for the Tucson rally. They recommend that participants meet at the corner of Ajo and 12th Street at about 9 am. We will walk to Amory Park a few blocks away. The rally is from 12:30 to 3 pm. Bring water and participants are asked to wear a white shirt or blouse. Please, no signs in Spanish nor Mexican flags.
